Abstract

Introduction & Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Mindfulness training on anxiety and physical mental toughness in 19-25 year old female athletes. Methodology: the method used in this study was quasi-experimental and also according to the length of time the research was conducted cross-sectional and in terms of using the obtained results. The research design was pre-test-post-test with an experimental group (mindfulness practice) and a control group. For this purpose, 40 female athletes from khoramabad city were selected as volunteers and randomly divided into experimental (n = 25) and control (n = 25) groups. In the pre-test phase, participants completed the questionnaires of competitive state anxiety and mental toughness. The intervention consisted of 6 sessions of 90-minute mindfulness exercises for the experimental group. The control group performed its usual activities. After the intervention, the participants completed the questionnaire again. Results: The data were analyzed by covariance test. Results of this study showed that mindfulness training had a significant effect on competitive anxiety (p = 0.001) and mental strength (p = 0.001) in female athletes. Conclusion: Overall, the results of this study showed that mindfulness intervention increased mental toughness and reduced competitive girls'' anxiety.
