Relationship between physical fitness and mental health and the extent of burnout of operational staff of Region 1 of Tehran Fire Department

Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between physical fitness and mental health and the rate of burnout of operational staff in Region 1 of the Tehran Fire Department. The research method was correlation and the statistical population of this study included the operational staff of Region 1 of Tehran Fire Department who were selected as a sample by cluster random sampling method using Cochran's formula. Data collection tools included the Efred Physical Fitness Test, the Goldberg Mental Health Questionnaire (1972), and the Maslach & Jackson (1985) Occupational Dysfunction Questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using SPSS24 software and descriptive and inferential statistical methods such as normality tests, Pearson correlation and regression. Findings showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between physical fitness and its components, including cardiovascular endurance, upper extremity endurance, trunk muscle endurance, agility and flexibility with mental health. Also, physical fitness and its components have a negative and significant relationship with burnout.
