Comparison of cognitive and psychological performance of athletes and non-athletes infected with the corona virus (Covid-19)

Abstract

The main aim of the current study was to compare the performance of cognitive abilities and psychological factors of athletes and non-athletes who are healthy and infected with the corona virus (Covid-19). The statistical population of the present study was made up of all athletes and non-athletes of Mashhad city. From this community, 60 athletes and 60 non-athletes in the age range of 20 to 40 years were selected as subjects. The criterion for diagnosing corona disease was a positive PCR test. Personal profile questionnaire, Nejati cognitive abilities questionnaire (2013) and DASS-21 questionnaire were used to collect data. To test the hypotheses, multivariate analysis of variance was used at a significance level of less than 5 percent. . The findings showed; There is a significant difference between the performance of cognitive abilities and psychological factors of athletes and non-athletes who are healthy and infected with the corona virus (Covid-19). In the index of cognitive abilities, the results of the follow-up test showed that the non-athlete group with corona significantly scored lower than the other three groups, while between the other three groups (athletes with the disease, athletes without the disease and no significant difference was observed Also, in the index of psychological factors (depression, anxiety and stress), the results of the follow-up test showed that the non-athlete group with corona significantly scored higher than the other three groups, while between the other three groups (athlete, No significant difference was observed between non-diseased athletes and non-diseased non-athletes.
