Comparison of happiness and academic progress of self-sacrificing students and athletes and non-athletes

Abstract

Introduction and purpose: The purpose of this research is to compare the happiness and academic progress of the athletes and non-athletes of Islamic Azad University, Islamshahr branch.

Methodology: The current type of research is applied in terms of purpose and scientific-comparative in terms of strategy, and its information is collected by field method. numbering 580 people. The sample size of the research includes 200 people (100 students who are self-sacrificing athletes and 100 non-athletes). The sampling method of the present research is random-stratified. The research tool includes the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (1989) with a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.90. In order to describe the variables of the research, descriptive statistical indices were used to determine the naturalness of the distribution of the data using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, and to determine the difference between the variables in the athlete and non-athlete groups, independent t-test was used.

Results: The results of the research showed that there is a significant difference between the level of happiness, positive excitement, satisfaction with life and the absence of negative emotions of selfless and witnessing athletes and non-athletes students of Islamic Azad University Islamshahr branch and its level is higher in athlete students than non-athletes.

Conclusion: It is suggested that the education officials of the 5th district of Tehran give importance to physical activity programs for teachers and organize them as extracurricular programs or festivals. This work can be an effective factor in improving the quality of life, spiritual intelligence and mental health of teachers.
