Assessing Quality and Life Expectancy in Women with Breast Cancer: The Mediating Role of Exercise Participation

Abstract

Introduction &Purpose: Today, the cancer is one the common diseases; it is the third cause of death around the world. However, this study aimed to investigate the improvement in life quality and life expectancy of women with breast cancer with mediating role of participation in sports activities.
 Methodology: For this purpose, 8 patients aged between 35-50 years old who referred to an oncology specialist were selected as sample; they were randomly assigned into experimental and control groups. The experimental group participated in swimming learning program for 8 sessions, and the control group performed their daily activities during this period. It should be noted that both groups completed SF-36 Quality of Life and AHS Life Expectancy Questionnaires in pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed using t-tests.
Results: The findings indicated that the swimming basics moves impacted positively on quality of life and life expectancy. The difference between experimental and control groups was significant; the experimental group showed better performance.
Conclusion: Based on findings, the swimming basic moves were recommended to improve the quality of life and life expectancy of women with breast cancer.
