Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the structural pattern of the effect of personality traits on the motivation of progress with emphasis on the role of mediator of emotional intelligence and self esteem. A sample of 302 students in Khorramabad was selected by cluster sampling. The data were collected by McGrath and Costa's personality trait questionnaire (1985), Shot Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (Shat et al., 1998), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (1965), and Hermann's Motivation Inventory Questionnaire. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used as a statistical method for analyzing study data. The results of the mediation test by bootstrap method indicated the significance of the role of mediator of emotional intelligence and self esteem in relation to personality characteristics and motivation for progress. Therefore, the variables of self-esteem and emotional intelligence in the relationship between personality traits and motivation of progress act as intermediary variables. Emotional intelligence is an important component in mental health of a person
