Abstract

Introduction & purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of Wells metacognitive therapy on reducing anxiety, increasing happiness, improving emotional intelligence and modifying strategies cognitive emotional regulation in junior high school boys of Khomeinishahr city.
Methodology: The statistical population was composed of all junior high school boys of Khomeinishahr city. The sample consisted of 30 students who were selected randomly through multi-stage cluster sampling method. The research instrument were Beck anxiety questionnaire (1998), oxford happiness questionnaire (1998), Bar-on emotional intelligence questionnaire (1998) and Garnefski Cognitive emotion regulation questionnaire (2002). 30 of selected students were divided inexperimental group (15) and control group (15). Experimental group recived 7 sessions of metacognitive therapy while control group was in waiting list. In both group dependents variables were evaluated in pretest, posttest and follow-up. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (Repeated Measures Variance Analysis). The data were analyzed by SPSS.
Results: The result indicated that Wells’ metacognitive therapy on reducing anxiety, increasing happiness, improving emotional intelligence and modifying strategies cognitive emotional regulation have been significant effects.
Conclusion: Regarding to result, Wells metacognitive therapy is effective on reducing anxiety, increasing happiness, improving emotional intelligence and modifying strategies cognitive emotional regulation in junior high school boys of Khomeinishahr city.
