Blood Pressure, Heart Rate and Rate Pressure Product Responses after Resistance Exercise Order in Middle-aged and overweight women

Abstract
Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) blood pressure, heart rate (HR) and rate pressure product (RPP) during recovery after resistance exercise order.

Materials and Methods: Twenty middle-aged and overweight women randomly participated in three sessions 1) resistance exercise order from large to small muscles, 2) resistance exercise order from small to large muscles and 3) control without exercise, with one week interval of each other. The subjects performed 8 resistance exercises in 3 sets of 10 repetitions at 80% of 1RM, and an interval of 2 min between the sets and exercises. SBP, DBP, HR and RPP were measured before and 0, 15, 30, 45 and 60 min after exercises.

Results: SBP after both exercise order was significantly lower for 60 min compared with pre-exercise levels. While, no significant change was observed in DBP. HR was significantly increased after both resistance exercise orders compared with baseline levels. RPP significantly increased only until 30 minute after both exercise order. Also, observed no differences between two resistance exercise orders.

Conclusion: In conclusion: the current research has shown that resistance exercise leads to a decrease in blood pressure and the sequence of resistance exercise does not affect the hemodynamic responses to this type of exercise
