Introduction: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a demyelinating disorder and may lead to significant disability. It has been reported that in addition to physical weakness, this disease is associated with vitamin D deficiency and dyslipidemia. The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of yoga exercises and vitamin D supplementation on lipid profile and physical fitness in women with MS.
Materials and methods: In this semi-experimental research, 32 women with MS, members of Dezful MS Association, were selected by random sampling, then randomly divided into four groups: yoga, vitamin D, yoga and vitamin D, and control. Before and after the intervention, blood sampling, Planck test, sit-up test and Wells test were taken from all four groups. The exercise protocol included yoga exercises for 8 weeks, three times a week, and each exercise session included 20-60 minutes of exercise, 6-8 repetitions, and 5-8 seconds. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way analysis of variance and Tukey's tests at a significant level (P ≥ 0.05).
Findings: 8 weeks of yoga practice and vitamin D supplementation on triglyceride and cholesterol index, low-density lipoprotein, high-density lipoprotein, flexibility, muscle endurance and muscle strength, and body mass index in women with multiple sclerosis have a significant difference compared to the control group, yoga practice and vitamin D had
Conclusion: The results of the study showed that yoga practice along with vitamin D consumption improves lipid profile indicators and physical fitness factors related to health.
