Introduction & Purpose: Fundamental movement skills are essential components of children's motor development and provide the foundation for participation in physical and sports activities. Children with neurodevelopmental disorders may experience difficulties in acquiring and performing these skills. Virtual reality-based exergames provide interactive environments, visual and auditory feedback, and opportunities for repetitive practice, potentially offering a novel approach to facilitating motor learning in this population. The present study aims to investigate the effectiveness of virtual reality-based exergames on fundamental movement skills in children with neurodevelopmental disorders.
Methodology: This study will employ a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest design with a control group and a follow-up assessment. The target population will consist of children with neurodevelopmental disorders within the specified age range. Participants will be recruited through convenience sampling and randomly allocated to the study groups. The intervention group will participate in a structured virtual reality-based exergame program, while the comparison group will undertake conventional motor training. Fundamental movement skills will be assessed using the Test of Gross Motor Development–Third Edition (TGMD-3). Data will be analyzed using appropriate statistical methods to examine between-group differences and changes over time.
Results: As the study is currently at the proposal development stage, no empirical results are available. It is anticipated that the intervention will improve locomotor and object-control skills and provide information regarding the retention and transfer of motor learning from virtual to real-world environments.
Conclusion: Virtual reality-based exergames may be investigated as a complementary approach in motor education and intervention programs for children with neurodevelopmental disorders. Empirical evaluation of this approach may contribute to the development of individualized physical activity programs addressing the motor needs of this population.
