Background The aim of the This study was to investigate the effect of 8 weeks of moderate-intensity interval training and capsaicin supplementation on TNF-α and MDA in elderly postmenopausal women.
Methods: 32 postmenopausal women aged 55 to 60 years in Tehran were divided into 4 groups of 8 people by simple randomization, including the interval training program group, the interval training program and supplement group, the supplement group, and the control group. In the present study, both active groups performed the exercise programs for eight weeks and the supplement groups performed the supplement group three sessions per week. The research variables were measured before and after the exercise program. For statistical analysis after data normality, two-way ANOVA and Tukey post hoc test were used. All statistical operations were performed by SPSS software version 22 and the significance level of the tests was considered at p≥0.05.
Results: The results of two-way analysis of variance showed that the levels of MDA and TNF-α in elderly postmenopausal women in the groups that exercised with and without supplementation were significantly lower than in the groups that did not exercise with and without supplementation.
Conclusion: Eight weeks of interval training and the use of capsaicin supplementation significantly improved antioxidant enzymes, total antioxidant capacity, and inflammatory factors in postmenopausal women.
