Introduction and Purpose:Cardiac angiogenesis is a vital process for maintaining heart health and preventing cardiovascular diseases. Exercise intensity and duration are important factors that regulate molecular pathways involved in angiogenesis. This systematic review aimed to investigate the effects of exercise intensity and duration on cardiac angiogenesis in studies conducted in Iran, to provide effective preventive strategies against heart diseases.
Methodology:A systematic search was conducted in domestic and international databases including SID, IranMedex, MEDLINE, and Cochrane Library from 2018 to 2024. Relevant studies on the impact of exercise intensity and duration on cardiac angiogenesis in Iranian human and animal samples were selected. Quality assessment was performed using SYRCLE and ROB 2.0 risk of bias tools.
Results:A total of 12 eligible studies, including 4 animal and 8 human studies, were reviewed. Results indicated that continuous long-term exercise with moderate to high intensity had the most significant positive effect on increasing cardiac angiogenesis markers (p < 0.01). Short-term low-intensity exercise showed less impact. Findings highlighted the importance of designing exercise programs tailored by intensity and duration to improve heart health in the Iranian population.
Conclusion:Exercise intensity and duration play a key role in regulating cardiac angiogenesis. Long-term exercise programs with moderate to high intensity are recommended as effective strategies for cardiovascular disease prevention in Iran.
