Introduction and Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of resistance training and blueberry supplementation on inflammatory markers and oxidative levels in diabetic male rats.
Methodology: In this experimental study, 32 male Wistar diabetic rats were randomly divided into four groups: control, supplement (blueberry), combined (resistance training plus blueberry), and resistance training. The resistance training protocol consisted of eight weeks of ladder climbing exercise at moderate intensity (70% of MVCC), five days per week. In the supplement and combined groups, 15 mg/kg body weight of blueberry extract was administered by gavage five days a week for eight weeks. The variables were measured using the ELISA method. Data were analyzed using one-way and two-way ANOVA and Tukey’s post hoc test.
Results: Serum levels of TNF-α and MDA significantly decreased in the resistance training groups with and without blueberry supplementation compared to the control and supplement groups, while TAC levels increased in these groups. No significant difference was observed between the resistance training groups with and without supplementation. Also, no significant difference was found between the supplement and control groups (p=0.155).
Conclusion: It is likely that two months of resistance training, with or without blueberry supplementation, can reduce inflammation and improve oxidative status, thereby providing a suitable environment for cell survival and enhanced growth.
